"It is not enough to simply teach children to read..."

"...we have to give them something worth reading. Something that will stretch their imaginations--something that will help them make sense of their own lives and encourage them to reach out toward people whose lives are quite different
from their own.”

- Katherine Patterson, author of BRIDGE TO TEREBITHIA

  1. Otherwise we might have to send them to "the Derek Zoolander Center for kids who want to learn how to read good (and do other things good, too)." ;)

  2. And to also forge their own identities, life's purpose and to achieve their goals.

  3. Can you please tell me something about the picture of the girl reading from your October 15th post? My husband LOVES it, but I haven't been able to find any information about it...artist, etc. Thanks so much!

    1. I knew I would find it if I was patient. The artist is James Charles (1851-1906), an English painter.
